Modern AI systems such as LLMs are pervasive and helpful, but do they really have the social intelligence to seamlessly and safely engage in interactions with humans? In this talk, I will delve into the limits of social intelligence of LLMs and how we can measure and anticipate their risks.
First, I will introduce Sotopia, a new social simulation environment to evaluate the interaction abilities of LLMs as social AI agents. I will show how today's most powerful models struggle to socially interact due to inability to deal with information asymmetry.

Governmental agricultural extension systems, which disseminate farm and market practice recommendations, are not always able to ensure all farmers receive adequate guidance. While agriculture chatbots have proven to be a powerful enabler for farmers at large scale, current chat bots struggle with low engagement.

Four CS faculty were awarded a Pitt Momentum Funds Seedling Grant

The Pitt Momentum Funds issued a Seedling Grant to a collaboration of four faculty from the Department of Computer Science, Drs.

Dr. Malihe Alikhani

Together with collaborators Ajay Divakaran and Karan Sikka of SRI research, Dr. Malihe Alikhani (assistant professor, CS) is working on designing content moderation systems for social media called the Greate Facilitators with the goal of designing agents that will actively moderate social media content to foster positive dialogue and discourage harmful behaviors such as bullying. The proposal has received funding through the Department of Defense Civil Sanctuary program.
