Russell “Rusty” A. Howard II Memorial Scholarship:

Russ Howard, a member of the Computer Science Department's technical staff, passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2016.

Russ joined the CS Department as a student employee lab monitor in 1995 and became a regular staff member shortly after. He had received BS and MS degrees in Information Science (from the iSchool, now the Department of Informatics and Networked Systems). He left a legacy of outstanding work ethic and friendship to be remembered, honored, and emulated by others.

In 2019, Cornelia “Cookie” Howard created the first named scholarship in the School of Computing and Information (SCI). Her $50,000 pledge over the following five years (2020-2025) will support the school’s graduate students and honors her son, Russell “Rusty” Howard. The scholarship provides support for tuition & other education-related expenses for graduate student(s) pursuing a master's degree in Computer Science or Information Science.
