About the Department of Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science (CS) is one of the oldest CS departments in the country. It is one of the three departments in the School of Computing and Information. We are located in Pittsburgh, PA, frequently voted as one of the most livable cities in the U.S., with a vibrant education, technology, culture, and sports environment. The Pittsburgh "story" is one of resilience and adaptation, which made the city known for its "eds and meds" (education and medical institutions) on the national and international stage. Our department is a community that includes 22 full-time tenure-stream faculty, nine appointment-stream faculty, more than 100 graduate students, more than 900 pre-CS/CS majors, and thousands of alumni. The department places a high priority on diversity, social justice, and inclusive excellence in research and teaching.
