Pitt professors Kevin Ashley and Diane Litman are working to make legal information more accessible through an artificial intelligence framework summarizing essential language in cases. The two have received a $600,000 grant from the joint Amazon and National Science Foundation Fairness in Artificial Intelligence program to support their project, Using AI to Increase Fairness by Improving Access to Justice.

Dr. Ihsan Qazi, a Pakistan-based Pitt computer science alumnus, adds the 2021 Sheth Young Alumni Award to his list of achievements for his work on digital accessibility and literacy.

Dr. Adriana Kovashka received a National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER award in May 2021. Dr. Kovashka teaches deep learning at the undergraduate level, and several graduate courses, including computer vision, both of which involve forms of machine learning. The project for which she was awarded the CAREER grant, focuses on object detection in images.
