Talk Abstract
Autonomous driving is poised to revolutionize future transportation systems. However, recent pilot commercial deployments have raised widespread concerns about the safety of autonomous driving systems. In response, a new paradigm has emerged in recent years that leverages smart roadside infrastructure to enhance the limited compute and perception capabilities of standalone vehicles.
In this talk, I will discuss a series of works in infrastructure-assisted autonomous driving. First, I will introduce the first system for real-time 3D perception fusion between roadside infrastructure and vehicles. Second, I will present an infrastructure-assisted localization system that leverages ubiquitous traffic cameras for precise vehicle localization. Third, I will present the pioneer system that leverages roadside infrastructure to achieve online HD mapping with centimeter-level accuracy. Lastly, I will reflect on existing sensor technologies and present the first active LiDAR system that enhances 3D mapping from the sensor level.
