Dr. Xiaowei Jia (assistant professor) received an Early Career Investigator Grant from NASA's Earth Science Division for his project “Towards Generalizable, Fair, and Knowledge Guided Machine Learning for Monitoring Earth Systems.” The grant was issued for $300,000, with the project estimated to last three years.
The project focuses on monitoring water temperature and streamflow in freshwater ecosystems as well as crop growth and greenhouse gas emissions in agricultural systems to develop a new generation of Machine Learning models. These models will study complex water and energy cycles in different environmental conditions over large regions and long periods.
