Pitt seal Tomas is a doctoral candidate in Computer Science at the University of Pittsburgh. I work on probabilistic modeling of complex systems, employing methods of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. My advisor is the good Dr. Milos Hauskrecht .

Here's where I stand in the hierarchy of philosophical questions:

Where is the Life we have lost in Living?
Where is the Wisdom we have lost in Knowledge?
Where is the Knowledge we have lost in Information?
Where is the Information we have lost in Data?

Job search materials

I plan to graduate from Pitt in December 2008 with a PhD in Computer Science. My specialty is machine learning and statistical modeling. I am no longer on the job market, having accepted a position with Boeing Phantom Works.

Research and publications

My primary interest is in statistical modeling of networks and vehicular traffic, using Machine Learning approaches to capture the complex dynamics of transportation networks. I have obtained results in joint modeling of traffic states , incident detection and traffic prediction.

I also happily jump after any project with an AI/ML methodology and an interesting real-world application. An anomaly detection method for detection of epidemic outbreaks came of one such jump.

There's nothing like having typed up a solid page of math in LaTeX at the end of the day. Lots of that kind of fun when we figured out linear inference in a class of dynamic Bayesian networks used in monitoring and detection problems.

Coursework

Last course I took was CS3150 - "Algorithmic Game Theory" in Spring 2008.

A few more good pictures (non-empty intersection).

More pictures posted for reasons other than their being in some sense good.
