The directory for installation was /usr/local/contrib/eclipse

• Eclipse (ver. 3.1), a platform designed for building integrated development environments (IDEs), that can be used to create applications as diverse as web sites, embedded Java programs, C++ programs, and Enterprise JavaBeans (Eclipse tutorial).

The directory for the following installation was /usr/local/contrib/bin

• OpenOffice 1.1.5 was installed on GNU/Linux and on blitz/javalab machines, (OpenOffice faq). This is an upgrade over the existing version (1.1.4).

  The program name is: openoffice

  If you are running OpenOffice 1.1 for the first time, it will run the installation program meant to install the components needed for each separate user. Follow the on screen instructions (you dont need to enter anything in the screen that asks for your name, address and other particulars). Once the installation is over, run openoffice again and presto, the program is up and running !!!
  

• spim, a MIPS simulator was installed in the GNU/Linux machines (xpsim was also installed).
