Important Guidelines

Attendance

Attendance to recitations is mandatory and will be worth 2% of your overall grade. Here is Dr. Ramirez', the course's professor, policy:

  • 2 points: if you attend all recitations, or miss at most two recitations.
  • 1 point: if you miss 3-5 recitations
  • 0 points: if you miss more than 5 recitations

However, note that some recitations include graded labs and quizzes. You cannot miss those! If you do, you will need to provide a justification (e.g., illness) to Professor Ramirez and ask him to send me an email authorizing you to take the quiz or submit the graded lab.

Note: Once the solution for the quiz has been provided, it will be harder for you to get authorization. Again, talk to the course's professor about it.

Communication

If you need to communicate with me directly by email, please follow these simple rules:

  • Any email message must be sent to rmv4 AT pitt DOT edu

  • The subject of your mail must have the prefix [CS0401] or [COE0401] (so that I can easily identify you). For example:
    [CS 0401] About the homework

  • Be sure that your email client (or webmail) is using your name and not only your email address in the From field of your message. If your name is not in the From field, please include it in the message body. If I do not see your name in the email message (either in the From field or in the body) I will not answer you (sorry about that)

If you want to change the From field of your Pitt account's webmail, please do this:

  1. Login to Pitt's webmail:

    https://webmail.pitt.edu/webmail/src/login.php

  2. Click on Options and then on Personal Information
  3. Put your name in the field Full Name
  4. Click the button Submit
