Purpose:

Computer architecture and hardware system organization are examined. Topics include: CPU organization and control, instruction set implementation, cache and memory organizations, parallel architectures and GPUs.

Computer Organization and Design - The Hardware/Software Interface
By David Patterson and John Hennessy
Fifth Edition - Morgan & Kaufmann.

Requirements and grading:

Three exams (25% each)
Homeworks, projects and quizes (25%)

Policy on cheating and late homeworks

Cheating on exam or projects will results in a grade of "0" for the first time (for all involved students) and an "F" in the course for the second time.
Late projects will not be accepted and Exams will not be rescheduled except under extraordinary circumstances.

Course Outlines and Schedule:

- We will spend 2 lectures reviewing parts of Chapters 1 and 2 and Sections 4.1-4.4 from the textbook. Then, we will cover the rest of Chapter 4, Chapters 5, Chapter 6 and Appendix C-2.
- An interactive engagement format will be used for Chapter 5.
