Education

qI graduated from Queens College of the City University of New York (CUNY) in May 2003, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science & English, magna cum laude.

Past Work

cu_logo_1While finishing my undergraduate degree at Queens, I worked for Columbia University in various capacities, including system and server administration, programming, website maintenance and development, and technical support.

The departments I worked for at Columbia include the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center (HICCC), and the International Center for Health Outcomes and Innovation Research (InCHOIR), and the Department of Health Policy & Management (HPM) at the Mailman School of Public Health (MSPH). I also did some volunteer work for the Columbia Genome Center.

For the HICCC, I did technical support. At InCHOIR, I worked as a JAVA programmer, web application programmer, and as a help desk support technician. At the Columbia Genome Center, I created an automated system for extracting the content from patient forms and storing that content in a DNA/genealogy-tracking database.

At HPM, I provided limited web design, and was the sole technical support person for 20+ people. My major accomplishments at HPM were installing and maintaining a standard antivirus protection system for the department, and improving network security and software security.

A few of the great people I have had the privilege of working for include Janie Weiss at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, Annetine Gelijns, Alan Moskowitz , and Ron Levitan of InCHOIR, James Knowles at the Columbia Genome Center, and Sherry Glied and Michael Sparer at the Department of Health Policy & Management.

I have also really enjoyed working with my peers at Columbia, including Ilya Pisman at HICCC, and Dina Brunstein and Vincent Doborev of InCHOIR. Hooah!

Current Work

logo_2I joined the staff of the University of Pittsburgh Cyber Sphere in September of 2004. Presently my work brings me into close contact with Dr. Taieb Znati in all matters relating to the Simulation and Modeling Group (SAM@Pitt), and with Anandha Gopalan on porting the (α, t) protocol to Linux PDA's. I am also responsible for the creation and maintenance of the SAM@pitt website, and several smaller websites as well.

rails I am a web master/designer/programmer, and I also dabble a bit in amateur computer graphics design with Adobe (formerly Macromedia) Fireworks MX 2004. The key tools I use on a daily basis include Ruby on Rails, MySQL, YourSQL, TextWrangler, PHP, XHTML, CSS, XML, RapidWeaver, DreamWeaver, and Fireworks. I work mostly based off of Mac OS X, not because I am such a MacHead, but because I just prefer Mac to Windows or Linux or Solaris, based on my own experiences.
