GSPlayer VGA
12/31/05
I see GSPlayer 2.23 is up with a new WM5 version. I've downloaded the source and made all the VGA changes I believe. I'm doing a few days of internal testing, then I will unleash it upon the New Year.

The woes of software registration
12/27/05
I'm sometimes asked why I don't sell my software. The number one reason is lack of time to do proper support. My schooling and teaching come first.
A second reason is software registration. The reality for software developer is that if you release a shareware program, it will b -
WM5 and *.unload files
12/22/05
I was looking into how to display the list of installed programs, and I noticed that in WM5 there are no .unload files in the \windows directory. It seems that they have been replaced with xml files in subdirectories under \windows\appmgr
Anyone confirm this or explain the difference?

Got a program idea?
12/19/05
So I have some time over break (I'm a grad student) and I like to do a new program over my breaks as a hobby. However, I'm not really sure what program to make next. So, I'm opening it up to suggestions.
Anything goes, but here are some notes that will make your suggestion -
x51mix?
12/17/05
As far as I know, the x51 series has the same audio chip as the x50 series. That means that x50mix should also work on the x51s without a problem.
Leave a note here with your experience to confirm, or let me know if there seems to be a problem.

FreeCell VGA Version
12/13/05
I saw a new open source version of FreeCell announced over at PocketGamer and decided to take a look.
Turns out, it isn't VGA aware, and uses the old style cards. I decided I wanted the shiny new cards, so I converted it to run in VGA.

SearchToday: Now with 100% less hangs
12/11/05
I believe I've fixed whatever was causing the hangs on reboot on WM2003 devices. With that in mind, I'm releasing a new version with a few more features:
I will continue to add a few more features, mainly where you can customize the menu to hold various different sea -
Internet Coding Examples
12/10/05
Two observations about coding examples and information on the web:
1.) Never trust it
2.) Even (especially?) if it's from Microsoft.

Another Test Version
12/10/05
I've uploaded a new test version that fixes a tiny problem SearchToday had in the code, and makes the installer set some more registry entries.
I have tested this on the ARM emulator and found it to not hang (i got it to hang once in a while before, but its hard to know if that was f -
SearchToday New Testing build
12/07/05
I've uploaded a new testing build to try to eliminate the lockups on WM2003SE. So far all I know is that an x50v with WM2003SE has problems, while an x50v with WM5 doesn't seem to.
This new testing release disables two features I added in the new version: resizing on orientation -
New build for testing - read Warning first!
12/06/05
I've uploaded a new version to test in the hopes it starts the lockups on reboots.
Anyone who is feeling adventurous and has encountered a lockup, give it a try and please report back.

Thanks.

Reports of SearchToday causing lockup!
12/06/05
I'm hearing that the new version of SearchToday is causing lockups on reboot that require a hard reset. I have not seen this in WM5 although boots are so slow it feels locked up.
If you can find a copy of safe mode for the pocket pc you can install that if there are problems on a WM2 -

Search Google from your Today Screen
12/04/05
I was enamored with one of the Today Screen plugins on the new WM Treo, of which you can see a screenshot here:
http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/index.p
The plugin allows you to search the web from the today screen. This seemed useful, and I wonder why no one ever thought of it before -
When Experimentation Goes Awry...
12/03/05
Upgrading my x50v to WM5 has certainly been an experience. There have been a lot of good suggestions to help improve its usability. One of them involves stopping ActiveSync from starting every 5 minutes by creating a fake server to connect to so you can update the synch schedule.
I wonder -
PlaylistEditor Tip
12/02/05
Did you know PlaylistEditor supports making playlists of streaming files?
Simply click the Add button and instead of browsing to a file, simply type or paste the url of a streaming file (http:// or mms:// for sure, others may work too.)
This way you can make playlists of your f -
Posting Enabled - For now
12/01/05
I've decided to enable user comments, mainly to see if anyone is actually reading.
For some reason the image capcha technique (anti-spam image with numbers thingy) isn't working on this server, so I've made a slight change to the PHP so that it just does the plain text ver -
Preview: AstronToday
12/01/05
I've been toying with some Astronomical calculations, and have this version of AstronToday for my personal testing.
One thing most people don't see is that I use and work with my applications for a long time often before they see the light of day. Typically I only re
