Our research group is working on a project is to determine how well computer users know their data. As part of this research we are asking for volunteers who are willing to participate in a survey to determine how familiar they are with a random selection of the files on their computer. If you choose to participate in this study, we ask that you download and run one of the survey wizards below. The survey will identify a random selection of files on your system and ask you to give us some high level information about them.
We will not be collecting any personal or detailed information about you or your data. Neither the filenames themselves nor your identity will be included in the results that get returned to us. The data we collect will be strictly confined to high level knowledge you have about your personal data collection. You will be able to cancel this survey at any time, and at the end we will display the results that will be collected before they are actually sent. This survey should take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Important: We request that participants do not select directories that only contain files they are familiar with. If during the survey you only see files that you don't recognize this is to be expected, simply indicate that you do not recognize them in the survey. Please send any questions or comments to Jack Lange at jacklange@cs.pitt.edu |
