The goal of this research is to facilitate an end-to-end demonstration of data transfers from a page oriented optical memory to a program executing on a desktop personal computer. In phase one of this project we have implemented an optoelectronic cache memory that is interfaced to a 2-photon polymer optical memory built by Call ReCall Inc. In phase two we are implementing new encoding, signal processing, and ECC alogorithms for the memory system. Our goal is to demonstrate that an optical memory can be tightly integrated into a conventional computer and that its high spatial bandwidth can be successfully exploited when optical memories are used as a backing store.
