The Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) enables software applications to invoke operations on distributed objects without concern for object location, programming language, operating system communication protocols, interconnections, or hardware platform.
The CORBA specification is controlled by the Object Management Group (OMG), an open consortium of more than 700 companies that work together to define open standards for distributed computing. (http://www.omg.org)
OMG is responsible for standardizing an open middleware specification to support distributed systems.
