Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center Student Employment Opportunities The Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC) is seeking qualified undergraduates students for the position of Hotline Consultant for the coming fall term (2091). These positions are 10-20 hours during the school year and up to 37.5 hours per week during the summer. Many of the PSC's former hotline consultants have graduated from their respective universities and have gone on to enjoy careers with other firms as well as the PSC. This position provides the student with the type of well-rounded experience that computer-related firms are seeking today. Qualifications Successful candidates will demonstrate: * Strong communication skills * Strong problem-solving skills * Maturity * Ability to work with others Experience in one or more of the following areas: * UNIX or other high-level operating systems * General programming (PC or mainframe) * General understanding of computer networks Responsibilities of a Hotline Consultant The hotline consultant will be responsible for remote consulting and troubleshooting for the Center's supercomputer users in the following topic areas: UNIX based operating systems, network access, application packages, and account management. PSC provides thorough training to Hotline Consultants in these areas.
