Providing high school students opportunities, tools, and motivation to excel in Computer Science.
"...TLI was a great experience and it helped a lot my first 3 semesters ... I benefited from the ... SAT prep, because i went back to school one step ahead of the rest of my peers. I knew some things that they were just being taught and that REALLY helped!"- Alisha M. (2007 participant)
The curriculum is developed by a team of faculty members and educators from the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and Pittsburgh Public School District. We attempt to provide a comprehensive and academically rigorous program for all students. The curriculum is project-based where students learn through active discovery. Every day, students will interact with undergraduate and graduate students from local universities, faculty members and industry professionals in the classroom.
We like to say that our program is student-centered. We are continuously evaluating our program, staff and students to provide what our students want to learn - of course, related to math, computers and technology! Whether it is how to create a website, computer animations, robots that can travel through a maze, networking or learning about IT entrepreneurs - we like to teach what is exciting, cool and provide our students with the foundational knowledge needed to prepare them for college coursework. We also have a strong emphasis on SAT Preparation - students will practive and learn various tips and techniques to increase their performance.
