Spotlight: KyoungSoo Park, Assistant Professor

Dr. KyoungSoo Park joined the Department of Computer Science as an Assistant Professor in the Spring of 2009. He has received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Princeton University in 2004 and 2007 and his B.S. degree in Computer Science from Seoul National University in South Korea in 1997. After finishing his B.S. degree, he worked for Hangul and Computer in Seoul and developed Hangul, the best-selling word processor software in South Korea. He also serves as a chief scientist in CoBlitz, Inc. which provides the high-performance content distribution network solutions to ISPs and Telcos.

Dr. Park's research interests focus on the scalability, reliability and performance in the distributed and networked systems. The goal of his research is to find and establish the fundamental principles in designing and improving the large-scale networked systems which impact the daily lives of millions of people. During his doctoral program, he has worked on improving the performance and reliability of Domain Name System(DNS) and large-scale content distribution networks (CDNs) which scalably deliver popular content simultaneously to many people around the world. His Co* systems (CoDeeN, CoDNS, CoBlitz, etc.) have been developed and deployed for real service on PlanetLab and have been used by more than six million people for the past five years.

Dr. Park is currently working on high-performance server design for small memory footprint and wide-area network(WAN) Web acceleration for low-bandwidth and high-latency links. More information can be found in his personal homepage.
