Installing GATE

Note: on Windows systems, it only makes sense to follow these instructions, if you have the necessary privileges for installing new applications to your computer. If you don't, then please ask the system administrators to perform the installation for you.

At the time of this writing, the group uses version 4.0 of GATE. You can retrieve the appropriate binaries from the gate-website at Sheffield University.

If you get the windows version, run gate.exe to install GATE. The installation is clean, and we have never encountered problems when accepting the default options offered during the installation.

If you want to install GATE in your private unix account, that, too, is possible. Follow the instructions given here:
http://gate.ac.uk/sale/tao/#sec:howto:install . Depending on your setup, this may require some more detective work on your part.
