The Industry Board objectives for the University of
Pittsburgh include:
- Keeping University of Pittsburgh in touch with industry
to enable the following:
- Provide feedback on "state of industry"
- Evaluate courses offered by the unversity and
provide feedback ensure that cirriculum aligns
with needs of industry
- Raising funds and providing sponsorships for the
Department of Computer Science
- Providing hiring opportunities to graduates
- Building an entrepreneurial culture to foster creative
ideas and spin-off companies
Current Initiatives
Capstone Class
The Capstone Class, CS1680 Special
Topics in Computer Science, provides students with real
world projects experience. Industry Board member
companies define a project to be completed by student
teams of 3 or 4 in one semester. Teams work closely with their industry mentor or faculty mentor to complete the project in a timely manner. Company project leaders evaluate the performance at the end of the project.
Contributions
Industry board members are invited to make contributions to the Computer Science Department in order to further the development and education of future computer science professionals.
