Spotlight

The Computer Science Department at the University of Pittsburgh is hosted in the School of Arts and Sciences and is one of the oldest CS Departments in the United States. Pitt's Computer Science Department takes pride in over 40 years' research and teaching excellence in all the core areas of Computer Science: artificial intelligence, algorithms, databases, systems and networks. With the hiring of new faculty, the Department has recently expanded to new directions in the areas of data visualization and medical imaging and strengthened the areas of embedded systems, compilers, computer architecture and natural language processing. The Department attracts substantial funding from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Department of Homeland Security to support research and develop well-equipped research labs and centers.
