9th Annual Computer Science Day

2008-2009 CS Day Awards


The 9th Annual Computer Science Day was a great success!! Everyone enjoyed all the activities throughout the day and into the evening.

Each year during CS Day, multiple awards are presented during CS Day.

Graduate research and undergraduate projects are presented in posters. Prizes for the 2009 Poster Competition were sponsored by the Computer Science Department. The list of 2008-2009 award recipients are:

  • Best Graduate Student Poster - Ihsan Ayyub Qazi
  • Runner-Up Graduate Student Poster - Christine Chung, Shenoda Guirguis, Lory Al Moakar,and Panayiotis Neophytou (co-authors)
  • Best Undergraduate Student Poster - Callen Shaw and Jesse Szwedko (co-authors)
  • Runner-Up Undergraduate Student Poster - Brian Dicks, John Hill, and Chris Sproull (co-authors)
  • People's Choice Student Poster - Josh Hedges and Tianna Hedges (co-authors)

Graduate and undergraduate students could submit an entry for the First Annual Business Plan Competition. The 2009 competition was sponsored by CEI. The 2008-2009 award recipient is:

  • Business Plan Award - Panayiotis Neophytou

Graduate and undergraduate students competed in the First Annual Cartoon Design for the Flyer Award. The 2008-2009 award recipients are:

  • 1st Place Cartoon Design Award - Heather Friedberg
  • 2nd Place Cartoon Design Award - Theodore DePietro
  • 3rd Place Cartoon Design Award - Sarah Greenwood

Students, faculty and staff show video and graphic clips of life in Computer Science for the 2009 Digital Media Award; The 2008-2009 competition ended in a tie and the award recipients are:

  • Digital Media Award - Roxana Gheorghui and Daniel Oliphant

Graduate students compete for the honor of the Best Research Award; the 2009 competition was sponsored by Compunetix. The 2008-2009 competition ended in a tie and the award recipients are:

  • Graduate Student Research Award - Ihsan Qazi and Swapna Sundaran
