The Department of
Computer Science and the Link to Learn program at the University of Pittsburgh
are sponsoring Computer Science Day on Saturday, December 2, 2000 from
12:30 until 4:00 PM. We are inviting your company to join us for one of the
major activities on Computer Science Day.
With Computer
Science Day, we are planning to bring together industry representatives,
educators, college and high school students, graduate students, parents, and
alumni in a forum enabling the exchange of ideas and information about computer
science and the various career opportunities available. A major goal of
Computer Science Day is to encourage more students to engage in the discipline
of computer science. Currently, as you undoubtedly know, there is great concern
about the critical shortage of information technology workers, which is
projected to continue well into the 21st Century. Related to this, and the
focus of the Link to Learn program, is the lack of full participation of women
and minorities in the field.
The activities
and events of Computer Science Day include a marketplace with industry
representatives and display tables, posters and demonstrations by the faculty
and students of the Department of Computer Science, and presentations and a
panel addressing issues related to careers in computer technology.
We would like to
invite a representative from your company to have a display table on
Computer Science Day, which will be held at the University of Pittsburgh. We
are also planning to have a circle of chairs at each table to better enable
discussions between the representatives and the attendees. We would really like
the attendees to learn about the exciting and diverse careers in computer
science.
Needless to say,
we would expect that participating in this activity enables your company to
gain special advantages in attempts to recruit our graduates as well as
influence new students to participate in the field of computer technology.
There is no
charge to have a table at this program. We will provide you with a table (6"
long), several chairs, and a sign displaying your company name. You are welcome
to bring literature, company brochures and any other materials to advertise
your company and job opportunities. A flyer is enclosed that includes a draft
agenda for the day and our web address, and also a form you may use to sign up
for this event.
Please contact
Jamie Jerrett, a coordinator of Computer Science Day, or
