Celebrating 40 Years of Excellence
Friday October 20 - Saturday October 21, 2006
In 1966, Dr. Orrin E. Taulbee left Goodyear Aerospace Corporation to join the University of Pittsburgh as chairperson of its newly approved Department of Computer Science. Pitt's CS Department was among the first such departments in the country.
On the University of Pittsburgh's homecoming weekend (October 2006), the Department of Computer Science invited all of its alumni to return to Pitt to help celebrate the 40th anniversary of the CS Department. The event was a great success, with many PhD, MS & BS recipients, along with their spouses and families, coming from all over the country to participate in the festivities.
On Friday, October 20, an Alumni Workshop was held in Sennott Square, at which PhD alumni presented their recent work and research. For a complete schedule of the workshop, click here.
That evening, CS alumni, faculty, and staff convened for an Alumni Dinner at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association. Rami Melhem, CS Department Chair, and D. Raja, Chairman of the CS Industry Board, both spoke. Bob Hoffman, Director of Operations for the CS Department, presented the history of the department through a series of vintage slides and photographs.
