CS 0110: Computers and Networks

Description
The purpose of this course is to give students without previous computer experience the knowledge and skills needed to use computers effectively in college and beyond. Emphasis will be placed on using software packages for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases as well as using the Internet.
Prerequisites
None.
CS Major Credit
Students majoring in computer science may not take this course after completing CS 0401.
Requirements and Grading
Requirements and grading: Grading will be based on homework assignments (30 percent, approximately one per week), lab reports (30 percent), and a midterm and final exam (15 percent and 25 percent, respectively). Homework assignments will include readings, projects that make further use of the skills learned in laboratories, and watching the ACM "Machine that Changed the World" video series.
Recitation: A lab associated with the selected class section is required.
Expected class size: 40 students.
Frequency: This course is offered every term.
