Schematic Progress of CARWANs Project
July 8th, 2005
- Website re-design and update began today.
August 16th, 2002
- The Inter-Cluster routing works. Implementation has stalled. Some more work remains to be done but we (Anandha Gopalan and Sanjeev Dwivedi defended our theses in a joint presentation). Source code version 0.1 is ready but still needs to be tuned before it can be released.
July 12, 2002
- The Intra-Cluster routing works Inter-Cluster Implementation going on fast forward
June 25, 2002
- Sample modules tested, added functionality to add proc entries for use later on.
June 15, 2002
- Adding routing functionality in the kernel, trying to use modules instead of working on changing the kernel code.
June 5, 2002
- Added add and delete functions to add and delete kernel routing table entries.
Apr 30 - May 30, 2002
- Long break ..... gone home to India.
Apr 27, 2002
- HELLO messages for messaging implemented and tested.
Apr 20, 2002
- Project tested on the ad-hoc mode, works fine :)
Apr 15, 2002
- Working on trying to get the project running in the ad-hoc mode.
Mar 29, 2002
- Our project thus far, ran and tested on the new laptops.
Mar 22, 2002
- Dell True Mobile wirelss cards (as part of the laptop) tested in ad-hoc mode.
Mar 20, 2002
- PCMCIA package for wireless cards downloaded and installed from http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/Tools.html
Mar 15, 2002
- Red Hat Linux 7.2 installed on the laptops, with the kernel upgraded to 2.4.8.
Mar 5, 2002
- Four Dell c610 laptops are welcomed to the project.
Feb 15, 2002
- Problem of manipulating routing tables from user space solved.
Jan 27, 2002
- Intra-cluster routing framework put in place.
- Exploring the possibility of adding/deleting routing entries and maintaining the cache from user space.
Jan 18, 2002
- Laptops and more WaveLan IEEE 802.11b cards ordered for the project.
Jan 10, 2002
- Back after a long break, last semester was too tough to work on the project more.
- Tested the old code to make sure that everything was working fine.
Dec 01, 2001
- Laptops given back to the dept for CS Day.
Sept 15, 2001
- Timers enhanced to include HELLO timer, for the HELLO PACKETS which will be used to test the state of the network.
- Frame work for inter-cluster clustering algorithm put in place.
Aug 25, 2001
- Intra-cluster clustering algorithm finished with some assumtions about its routing, (basic principle used was broadcast).
Aug 15, 2001
- WaveLan cards tested in the ad-hoc mode.
Aug 05, 2001
- Linux installed on the laptops along with the timer patch. WaveLan IEEE 802.11b cards tested on those kernels.
July 30, 2001
- Parts of intra-cluster algorithm tested and some modifications done.
- Laptops received to do some testing using them.
July 20, 2001
- Basic frame work for the (α, t) cluster in place.
July 14, 2001
- RAW sockets tested using some examples.
July 10, 2001
- Multiple timers tested and are working fine.
July 05, 2001
- Timer patches installed for using multiple timers. Installed from http://home.concepts-ict.nl/~rhdv/posix.html
June 30, 2001
- RedHat Linux 7.1 installed on carwan.cs.pitt.edu, it is now a dual boot with Win 2000.
- New kernel downloaded (2.4.5) and installed.
June 14, 2001
- We welcome our new machine for the project (A Gateway PIV 1.4Ghz machine), which will be aptly named carwan.cs.pitt.edu
