About Computer Science Day Computer Science Day brings together educators, college and high school students, graduate students, parents, alumni and industrial representatives in a form enabling the exchange of ideas and information about computer science and the career opportunities available.
A goal of Computer Science Day is to encourage more students to study computer science at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The focus of the Link-to-Learn program is to increase the participation of women and minorities in computer science, especially in Pennsylvania. Link-to-Learn also addresses the need for more American graduate students in computer science.
The activities and events of Computer Science Day include:
- Student Panel Discussion -- students majoring in computer science at the University of Pittsburgh will each give a short talk about their experiences and career interests, and the panel will field questions about what it is like to major in computer science at Pitt.
- Marketplace -- The Marketplace will exhibit industry display booths, poster presentations by students, and hands-on computer demonstrations by faculty. There will be tables with information about computer science, graduate study, and other special programs. Refreshments will be served.
- Program -- Several student awards will be presented, and the program will include a keynote presentation.
- Industry Panel -- Representatives from major technical companies will each give a short talk and answer audience questions addressing issues related to the future of the technology industry.
