About Computer Science Day

Computer Science Day brings together educators, college and high school students, graduate students, parents, alumni and industry representatives in a forum enabling the exchange of ideas and information about computer science and the career opportunities available. A major goal of Computer Science Day is to encourage more students to engage in the discipline of computer science. Currently, there is concern about the critical shortage of information technology workers, which is projected to continue well into the 21st Century. Related to this is the lack of full participation of women and minorities in the field.

The activities and events of Computer Science Day, including a marketplace with industry representatives, posters and demonstrations by the faculty and students of the Department of Computer Science, and a panel addressing issues related to careers in computer technology, help answer the following questions:

1. What does a major in computer science study?

2. What are the career prospects for a computer science major now and in the future?

3. What is the agenda being addressed by computer science research?

4. What are the diverse career opportunities being offered by industry for computer science majors?

5. Why should you consider graduate school in computer science?

6. What are the mutually beneficial relationships between the CS Department and Industry?
